“Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve.”
I’m sure you’re interested in figuring out the ‘secret’ to success. You’re always looking for that magic formula that will make you successful.
Well, guess what ? It’s been there all along. It’s just that most people aren’t consistent and that’s why few of them get what they want.
I’m going to give you eight principles you need to apply consistently to reach whatever goal you have. These success principles are taken from Napolean Hill’s book Think and Grow Rich.
Napolean knew a lot of legendary people like Thomas Edison and Andrew Carnegie. These principles are the result of interviewing 500 rich people and his great experience knowing extremely successful people so you can bet he knows what he’s talking about.
Basically, you can’t be successful without being driven. You can’t become successful just because you kind of want it or because it would be nice. You have to pursue that aggressively and really want it.
If you want to reach your goals, your desire must be greater than your fear of not succeeding.
Can you achieve something if you think it’s impossible to do ? Probably not. You have to believe that you can achieve your desired outcome even if it sounds extremely difficult, that’s where the challenge is.
I mean you could easily do something that everyone does, then it would seem quite doable but at the same time, you’ll stay mediocre for the rest of your life. While believing that you can achieve what’s on your mind is challenging, it’s also extremely rewarding and an essential part to your success.
3. Auto suggestion
That’s just a fancy name for visualization. It’s been proven by many studies that when you imagine yourself doing a certain task over and over again that your subconscious mind won’t be able to see the difference.
How can this help you ? Well, according to Napolean it can help you a lot in achieving your goals because it works as a training for your mind. All you have to do is take 10 minutes every day and imagine yourself achieving your goal.
By the way, there's a whole book about this called Psycho-cybernetics. It's the best book you'll ever read on visualization.
4. Specialised Knowledge
I bet you saw this one coming. This basically says that if you want to succeed at anything, instead of having that broad general view on each topic in life, you should become an expert in just one area because that’s where the money and success can be found.
No one will give you a million dollars of knowing a little bit about everything, but a ton of people will pay you a lot of money if you’re a specialist in some kind of field.
5. Organised Planning
What can be measured can be improved. You can only become better if you know where you are. The good thing with planning is that it can tell you exactly what you need to do each day to become closer to your desired outcome instead of saying stuff like ‘I’ll work hard’.
If you want to succeed without a plan it’s like you’re driving a car with its wheels spinning really fast but your foot is on the brakes.
This doesn’t mean you should write everything out (I personally don’t like it). It just means you should have a clear set of actions to take in order to get to where you want to go.
Imagine you’re driving and you find yourself in a crossroad, then you choose what road to take and you go for it. Instants later, you decide that you took the wrong exit and you try another one, and the same thing happens so you try the other direction.
The problem here is that you took all of the roads, but you finished none of them. That’s how it is when you’re indecisive. You always decide something then change your mind and that’s….well, not good !
Once you take your decision, stick to it. That’s the only way to reach the end of the road, which is in your case, that thing that you want to achieve.
That’s my favorite one of them all, and the most important one also. If you ask most people why they didn’t get what they want in life, I’ll bet you’ll find out that they gave up too soon.
You have to be willing to face adversity and bad conditions if you want to do anything meaningful. There’s no easy way. So if you want ti be successful, persist until you make it.
This principle has been a bit overused in cheesy posts on social media you often see, but it’s really a must-have ingredient to reach you goal.
8. Power of the Master Mind
In other words, you should have a group of people (or someone else) with similar goals to exchange experience and motivation which will help both of you in their own journey.
I’m sure you know how the people you hang out with can really have a heavy impact on your mood, the way you think, and your overall personality.
So you want to surround yourself with like-minded people who are ambitious and driven to learn from them and become more motivated to go for your ambition.
One last thing
Look, you're wasting your time by constantly searching for a secret to success. Many people who you know like Jobs, Zuckerberg or Gates were successful as a result of intelligence, hard work and consistency. There's no secret, you just have to apply these principles and be consistent.
Don't forget that these principles come from someone who knew people who are now legends in history so it's pretty safe to assume that he's right.
If you want to learn these principles in more depth and from their source, read Think and Grow Rich
